The 8.5 megawatts (MW) Asaba Independent Power Plant (IPP) commissioned on Monday by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Delta State will improve energy delivery, its operators have said.
The project was executed in partnership with private entities including Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited and Bastanchury Power Solutions Nigeria Limited.
The plant, with a distribution network of over 25 kilometres using underground cables, is to power all the State government’s assets and facilities in Asaba, they noted.
According to a statement, the Managing Director Bastanchury Power, Mr Chidi Goziem, said the impact would rub off on the entire Asaba community through improved power supply and security.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited and Chief Investment Officer of Africa Infra Plus Fund (AIPF), Mr Niran Ajakaiye, said the project came to fruition because of the state government’s commitment to purchase the power generated by the plant.
According to him, dedicating supply to government assets from the plant, the load shedding in Asaba metropolis from the electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) would reduce as more quantum of electricity will be freed up from the DisCo to households.
