Benebo said at a ceremony to mark the end of her tenure as director general that she was stepping out gallantly having made NESREA a household name in the country.
“Looking back to the last eight years of commitment and service to my country and fatherland, I have no regrets and more importantly, we have succeeded in making the agency a household name in the country and even outside the shores of this country,” she said.
She acknowledged that it was tough enforcing environmental laws in the country but added that with support from the staff and government she was able to fight environmental defaulters to a standstill.
Dr Lawrence Anukan, the acting Director General, said that the feat recorded by the agency under the leadership of Benebo would be sustained.
Anukan, who is also the Director, Planning and Policy Analysis at the agency, said the agency would remain committed to the enforcement of existing environmental laws, regulations and standards and make the country safe for both human and animals.
Also speaking at the event, Barr. Huzi Meshila, NESREA board chairman congratulated Benebo for her achievement as director general of the agency and urged staff of the agency to assist the acting director general to ensure that the mandate of the agency was attained.
