The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) says it is currently proposing a tribunal for offences relating to electricity sector as part of measures to curb sharp practices.

Managing Director of NEMSA, Engr Tukur Tahir Aliyu who made the disclosure in Abuja yesterday noted that the tribunal will also aid in speedy trial and judgement of cases in the sector 

According to him, “NEMSA is looking at establishing an electricity offenses tribunal to enforce its mandate. This is because our enforcement process usually as it requires you to first do inspection to ascertain the incident before issuing enforcement notice and directive to correct this defect within a time frame and subsequently NEMSA issues an enforcement order which means the individual or entity has committed a serious offense and at the end of a timeline our legal team goes to court which is a long process.

“So if we want to Fastrack this, we will establish the tribunal and it will go a long way to curb sharp practices knowing fully well there is a tribunal to try you

He also added that have written to the National Automotive Design and Development Council agency NADDC to ensure that the newly rolled out electric vehicles are tested and certified.
