NEMSA inspected 10,876 electricity networks in 2022

The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) inspected 10,598 electricity networks and resolved issues around 771 of them in 2022.

The Managing Director/CEO of NEMSA, Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir, stated this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.

He said, “2022 was a good year as we recorded many achievements in the power sector. Permit me to use this time together to recount some of these achievements. We inspected a total of 10,876 new electrical projects, monitored 10,598 existing networks and resolved 771 of them.”

Tahir also said the electrical inspection agency inspected 3,480 factories, public places and hotels and tested 2,576,607 (2.576 million) electricity meters during the period.

Insisting that NEMSA wants professional electricians to improve safe practice, Tahir said the agency certified 3,719 electrical personnel and renewed 6,332 licences in all.

NEMSA also inspected 647 indigenous pole manufacturers just as it removed 68,168 substandard materials and certified 36 meter and instruments manufacturing assembling companies.

“NEMSA also investigated 346 electrical accident sites and monitored DisCos’ compliance level on the existing networks,” he added.

The agency is also building capacity in renewable energy and trained 18 of its electrical engineers on renewable energy through a partnership with Germany’s GIZ.

On the outlook of NEMSA this year, Tahir said the task force constituted last year will continue the national monitoring of existing networks and equipment.
