The Director-General ofNEMA, Dr. Sani- Sidi, who gave the advice, weekend in Lokoja, while presenting items worth millions of naira to victims of windstorm disaster in Kogi State, said trees serve as wind breaker.
Sani- Sidi, who was represented by NEMA Zonal Co-ordinator, Ishaya Isah Chonoko, said the relief items were not compensation but succour to those affected.
Receiving the items, the Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, said cutting of trees is detrimental to the society.
The deputy governor, represented by the Special Adviser on Emergency Management, AVM Gabriel Abdul, said the items will go a long way in complementing government’s efforts at helping the victims.
The items presented included mattresses, bundle of roofing sheets, blankets, brocades, wax prints, buckets, amongst others to cushion the effect of the disaster caused by the wind storm.
