The National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA), in collaboration with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has commenced distribution of relief materials to 6573 farmers affected by flood in the state.

In her remarks during the flag-off of the exercise in Damagum Fune local government area, NEMA Zonal coordinator Mrs Wagami Lydia Madu, said the intervention was part of emergency agricultural initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to her the initiative was meant to nip in the bud any negative effect that the disaster might cause to food production so as to ensure food security in the country.

She said the farm inputs were aimed at supporting farmers who were affected by the 2020 flood in the 36 states across the country.

“Today 393 farmers from Fune LGA will receive their allocation while other beneficiaries from the remaining 10 identified local government areas will subsequently receive theirs shortly.

“Items to be distributed include seeds, agrochemicals, knapsack sprayers, water pumps and fertiliser,” she said.

The SEMA Executive Secretary, Dr Mohammed Goje, urged farmers especially who are into dry season to maximise the resources.

The Chairman Fune Local Government, Baba Goni Bade while handing over the package to the beneficiaries called them to make good use of it.
