NEMA’s North-West Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Ilallah during a joint operation tagged, ‘’Operation Eagle Eye’’ along the Kaduna-Abuja Express way said his agency, the FRSC and the Nigerian Red Cross were collaborating to address overloading and over speeding by drivers.
“The four roads in Kaduna- Kano, Kaduna- Birnin Gwari and Kaduna- Jos road will be manned by our men. NEMA as a disaster management agency has a significant role to play in reducing road accidents. It has a sophisticated ambulance introduced in this year’s campaign to provide emergency services for accident victims before rushing them to hospital,” Alhaji Musa said.
Zonal Commandant of the FRSC in charge of Katsina, Jigawa, Kano and Kaduna States, Mr. Charles Theophilus, said out of the 70 drivers arrested a few days ago, 50 were fined for disobeying road traffic rules and regulations and one was jailed.
Mr. Charlse said the FRSC has a metro vehicle to remove any car that blocks the road and advised drivers to avoid overloading, over speeding and dangerous overtaking. The Board of Trustees Chairman of the FRSC, Alhaji Ahmed Garba Inuwa, commended NEMA for the efforts and urged other stakeholders on disaster management to emulate the agency.
