The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the distribution of food items donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to 500 vulnerable households in Kano State.

The Director General of the agency, Mustapha Habib, on Monday, while flagging off the distribution, said it was in line with the provision of humanitarian service to people that had been impacted by natural and human-induced disasters.

Represented by NEMA’s head of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Hajiya Fatima Kassim, the DG said the donation was timely during the holy month of Ramadan.

He said, “The 500 vulnerable people affected by the disaster in Bunkure communities and other local government areas of Kano State were profiled by NEMA in collaboration with the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

“Each household will get a total of 59.8kg of food items which include rice, beans, masa vita flour, tomato paste, vegetable oil and salt.”

Earlier, the Deputy Consul General of the Saudi Embassy in Kano, Alhaji Nawaf Muhammad, said the donation was to cushion the difficulties the beneficiaries were facing, and pledged to continue with the gesture.

Malam Abdulaziz Muhammad, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended the agency and KSrelief for the gesture.
