NEMA deploys digital gadgets for disaster communication system

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday launched digital gadgets to aid its strategic disaster communication system.

NEMA Director-General, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, who launched Hytera Radios, said the introduction of strategic communication technologies was to enhance effective communications among team players.

He listed the new strategic communication frameworks as Digital Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) and broadband communication infrastructure and Hytera devices.

He said Hytera radios were world-class next-generation technologies which help industries around the world to be more efficient, effective and agile in their operations.

“Hytera emergency solutions ensure secure, non-of-sight wireless link on-demand to enable front line responders to communicate with on-site command centers in complicated environment. The devices could function flexibly as walkie talkies, android smart phones and command post devices at local theatres of operation and across unlimited distance in terms of range.”

Ahmed said the launch was the first phase and all the agency’s offices nationwide would be covered.

He said the 160 available radios would be deployed across the agency’s offices.
