In a statement yesterday by the agency’s Information Officer, Sani Datti, it said the panel would consult and liaise with all relevant stakeholders to look into the allegations of child trafficking and rape in some internally displaced persons’ camps in the North East.
The decision to constitute the panel was taken by the agency following an online publication titled: “Grim tales of rape, child trafficking in displaced persons camps” by icirnigeria.org (International Center for Investigative Reporting) and republished by premium times.
NEMA said its Director General, Muham-mad Sani Sidi, met with stakeholders on Monday, including representatives of Depart-ment of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, National Human Rights Commission, Nige-rian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency and a representative of the publisher.
Sidi urged the committee to work in a transparent and honest manner. The panel has two weeks to complete its investigation.
