NEF cautions against attacking northerners in South

The Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abdullahi, has warned against attacking northerners residing in other parts of the country.

Abdullahi spoke in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, at a meeting organised by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG).

He expressed concern over the magnitude of losses northerners experienced during the EndSARS protest in the southern part of the country, particularly the South East.

“We saw no reason innocent residents, wherever they are, irrespective of where they come from, who are not participating in the protest, should be subjected to violence in various parts of the country, especially violence against northerners in different parts of the South,” he said.

He said it was high time security agencies assured Nigerians “that this must end.

“This must stop. They should not allow this red line to be crossed, because people get away with criminal behaviour without sanctions, without punishment.

“That is why they carry out this irresponsible behaviour.”
