North East Development Commission (NEDC)

The North-East Development Commission has empowered 193 youths with skills in graphic design and phone repairs. Each of the participants was also given a starter kit.

Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammad Alkali, who was represented by Mahmood Adam Gambari, explained that among the 193 beneficiaries, 97 have acquired graphic designing skills while 96 were taught how to repair smart phones.

He explained that the programme was aimed at developing a robust ICT local content industry.

Alkali said since the roll-out of the ICT resource training, a total of 2,400 participants have benefitted and 30 of them have commenced private businesses.

He said the commission had plans to establish more centres across the North East in partnership with other federal, state government agencies and the private sector.

A beneficiary, Aliyu Adam, said NEDC has made him self-reliant, and he would no longer depend on the government for a white-collar job.

Another beneficiary, Sarah John, who was trained  in graphic design,  thank the commission for the opportunity.
