The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated farm inputs, including rice seedlings, fertiliser, herbicides and fungicides to small scale farmers to enhance their production capacity and improve their livelihood in Bauchi State.
Speaking during the distribution of the items, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, said the commission was rolling out its integrated agriculture programmes involving the provision of agricultural machinery and equipment, seeds, fertiliser, agro-chemicals and other logistics to enhance the production capacity of smallholder farmers in the North East and enable them improve their livelihood.
The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, thanked NEDC for the gesture and pleaded with it to support the state government in the training of extension workers with a view to educate and strengthen the capacity of farmers in the state.
The governor commended NEDC for its interventions in the state, adding that the improved rice seedlings given would greatly improve their production.
