NEDC debuts with Inter-Secondary School Games in North East

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) is set to organise the maiden Inter-Secondary School Sports competition for the six states in the region.

Gambo Mamman, the Project Consultant stated this to newsmen, while handing over sports equipment to the Yobe State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Damaturu.

He said the NEDC is determined to revive the old inter-secondary schools sporting competition in the region after numerous attacks by the insurgents.

Mr. Mamman, said the competition would be held concurrently across the six states of Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe in the North East region.

He added that the Games which would be held from 22 to 25 October, would feature football, athletics, basketball, volleyball, and table tennis.

Mamman added that the competition would take place at both the state and zonal levels.

According to him, the finals of the tournament would be held in Bauchi State, where winners from each state would compete in all the events, saying the outstanding players would receive a scholarship from the commission.

Receiving the sports equipment, the Yobe State Commissioner Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Abba Idris Adam, said six Secondary Schools have been selected to represent the state.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bukar Aji Bukar, pledged to support the competition including providing sports facilities to ensure its success.
