The National Examinations Council (NECO) has said candidates’ performance in the 2022 Internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) declined by 10.9 per cent when compared to 2021 figures.
The Registrar, Professor Danteni Ibrahim Wushishi said a total of 727, 864 (60.74%) candidates, scored 5 credits and above including English Language and Mathematics compared with 878, 925 candidates representing 71.64 per cent in 2021.

He stated this while announcing the results at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State on Thursday.
Wushishi said a total of 1, 209, 703 candidates registered for the examination but only 1, 198, 412 sat for the examination with 630, 180 males (52.58%) against 568, 232 females (47.41%).
He revealed that 13, 594 candidates (0.13%) were involved in various forms of malpractices while four schools had been recommended for de-recognition for two years each for mass cheating and 29 supervisors blacklisted for poor supervision, insult, aiding and abetting during the examinations.
The Registrar also revealed that the backlog of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Certificates from 2012-2021 would soon be ready for collection while SSCE certificates for 2020 and 2021 would also be ready by the end of October.
He added that the certificates for 2022 internal SSCE would be ready in three months as he directed schools to forward complaints within 1 month.
