NECO: Group demands explanation over withheld results in Sokoto

The Sokoto state Development Association (SOSDA) has written to the National Examination Council (NECO), seeking clarification on why the results of the state’s indigenes were not released, one year after conduct of the examinations.

Daily Trust learnt that the results were withheld over unresolved issues between the examination body and the state government.

The state government has been paying examination fees for final year students in public secondary schools in the state.

In a letter addressed to NECO which was jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Association, Malami Mohammed Galadanci and Dr. Abubakar Alkali respectively, a copy of which was obtained by Daily Trust, the group noted that the development was hindering the students from taking next steps in their academic career.

“We want NECO to furnish us with reasons on why the result is yet to be released, when results for candidates from other states who sat for the same examination in the 2019/2020 session has been released,” it added.

It also called on all stakeholders to lend their voices with a view to getting the results for Sokoto state indigenes released.

SOSDA particularly enjoined the Sokoto state government to take the necessary steps towards ensuring that the results were released.

It assured NECO of its readiness to assist where necessary towards the release of results for the affected candidates from Sokoto state so as to enable them further their education.
