NECA, local firms move to encourage non-oil exports

Local manufacturers in Nigeria under the Nigerian Employers Consultative Association (NECA) have concluded arrangements to encourage export of finished goods.

The Corporate Relations Director of the Guinness Nigeria Plc, Rotimi Odusola said the move will help Nigeria generate foreign exchange, create and sustain jobs in the country, as well as stop the effects of fluctuation of the oil price in the international market.

Odusola, who is the chairman of NECA’s Employers Summit Planning Committee, disclosed this when he accompanied officials of the association to the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja on Wednesday.

He solicited the support of the ministry towards the agenda of Nigerian manufacturers to export products to foreign markets, especially to Nigerian communities “who crave a taste of home.”

Earlier, the Director General of NECA, Wale Smart Oyerinde, informed the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Kachollom Daju, who received the delegation, that the association will hold its second summit in the second half of the year with the theme: Trade and Non-Oil Exports” with focus on promoting trade, skills and decent work.

The DG of the umbrella body of employers also reiterated the associations interest in promoting responsible enterprises, eliminating exploitation, child labour and ensuring gender balance in the work place.

Responding, Kachollom Daju called for citizen participation in national development, which she said is usually gradual, noting that the federal government recently signed the bill to take electricity out of the exclusive list.
