He said the command prosecuted at the Federal High Court Kaduna and had eight of the suspects sent to various jail terms.
According to the commander, the “miracle” started with the arrest of a suspect with 86.8kg of cannabis sativa while the major breakthrough came with the arrest of two suspects with 17 bags weighing 162.8kg of the same substance in Kudandan Layout in Kaduna.
He said another suspect was arrested with 68.5kg at Dutsen-Wai and another with 10.2kg of cannabis at Kasuwar Magani, totalling 328.1kg within 10 days of May.
The commander further gave a total breakdown of the arrests from January to May, saying in January 23 arrests were made with 224.330kg of drugs, in February 21 were arrested with 992.625kg, in March 18 were arrested with 153.539kg, in April 22 were arrested with 23.013kg and in May 5 were arrested with 328.1kg.
He lamented over the shortage of manpower which had been a challenge for the fight against drug abuse in the state.
According to him, there is the need for sensitisation on drugs-related issues in secondary and tertiary institutions, patent stores, among market women, among others, so as to help fight against drug abuse.
