The Edo State commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Buba Wakawa, has said 2,193 suspected drug traffickers were arrested between 2015 and March 2022 in the state.

He said the agency secured the conviction of 213 persons arrested in connection with drugs while 256 cases are pending at the Federal High Courts.

Wakawa made this known when he conferred on the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, the Grand Ambassador in the fight against drug abuse of the agency yesterday.

He said the agency also seized 488 tonnes of substances including cocaine, heroin and cannabis sativa within the period.

Responding, Oba Ewuare II commended the NDLEA for conferring on him Grand Ambassador fight against drug abuse and called on the agency to provide clear guidelines that would help them in the discharge of their duties.
