The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it apprehended no fewer than 1,016 suspects allegedly involved in drug-related offences among which 40 were females in the year 2023.
The command equally revealed that it succeeded in recovering 9,128.572kg tonnes of illicit substances in the year under review.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASN II Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the ongoing fight against drug abuse in Kano has dealt a severe blow to the illicit drug trade, disrupting the operations of criminal networks and ensuring the safety and well-being of the Kano residents.
Moreover, he said the command has recovered 9,128.572kg (9 tonnes) of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances through tactical offensives on drug peddlers and interdictions of their consignments, preventing harmful substances from reaching communities and potentially devastating countless lives.

ASN Maigatari revealed that the seizure includes 6,097.879kg of cannabis sativa, 1,695.774kg of psychotropic substances and 1334.919kg of other illicit substances including cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.
He noted that the achievement underscores the relentless commitment of the NDLEA Kano Command in creating a drug-free Kano State.
He explained that the NDLEA Kano Command’s efforts have also resulted in securing 102 convictions, with 104 pending cases before the Federal High Court, where 1 woman was sentenced to 5 years and a man to 10 years in prison for different drug offences, ensuring that those responsible for drug-related crimes face the full force of the law.
