The Sokoto State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 78 suspects in connection with various drug-related offences from January to date.

The Commander of the agency, Iro Muhammad, disclosed this during a press conference organised to mark this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held on Tuesday.

According to him, the seizures include 91.74 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, 11.60 kilograms of psychotropic substance and 63.759 litres of codeine.

He added that the command had secured 12 convictions in the period under review. Muhammad also revealed that 58 victims of drug abuse were rehabilitated by the command. He said that the victims were brought to them by their relatives.
The Commander stated that the aim of the celebration was to adequately educate the general public on drug abuse and its consequences.
