Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has expressed his commitment to development of sports at the grassroots, especially at Ajegunle, Lagos.
Ndidi who celebrated Boxing Day with kids at the Maracana stadium, Ajegunle, Lagos, recalled how his illustrious football career started in the ever bustling Ajegunle.
“I feel like it’s a festive period and these kids deserve something like this. It’s something they will have to remember and the memory sticks with them.
“The happiness on the faces of the children too can’t be explained. All we are trying to do is to create memories and I’m happy to be doing this because some of us didn’t have this experience while growing up. I grew up in the barracks like most people know. This is not about football now. Schools are on break and this is a time to create memories,” he said.

“This programme is Ndidi’s idea in collaboration with the local government. We generally worked together as a team, to do it together. He has been funding programmes like this for close to five years,” he said.
The paramount ruler of Apapa Town, HRH Moroofdeen Oluwa, who graced the occasion, encouraged others whose journey to stardom began from Ajegunle to emulate Ndidi.
“Ndidi is giving back to the people. He is a product of Ajegunle and he is giving back to what he has enjoyed in his days.
“We are using this medium to appeal to other Ndidis’ who are products of AJ city. They should come and give back to the people,” he said.
