The trio: Major General Adamu Dieri (Rtd), Brigadier-Genaral Anthony D. Etukudo (Rtd) and Mr. Lawrence Alobie, former FCT Commissioner of Police all spoke at the Security Council meeting of a new Niger Delta elite group the Oil Producing Areas Landlords Association of Nigeria (OMPALAN) in Abuja.
According to Gen. Dieri, former Chief of Administration, Defence Headquarters, “the crisis should not be taken for granted as the matter concerns every Nigerian.
Gen, Dieri said the Federal government was doing its best, “but the resources being provided is disappearing in the local Bermunda Triangle.”
On his part, Mr. Alobie who is OMPALAN Security Adviser, said the situation needs a collective action as it could lead to a rebellion. “The FG has shown sincerity and commitment in looking at problem, therefore, all Niger Deltans must demonstrate genuine interest through transparency and accountability.”
Gen. Etukudo who is OMPALAN’s National Chairman said the crisis has moved from being a local issue to national one, adding that the FG has responded with the creation of Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Technical Committee as well as the appointment of their people in choice positions.
