CNPP in a release by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Osita Okechukwu, pointed out that the package fell short of the general expectations.
The press release stated: “For the avoidance of doubt, we had thought that the Presidential Panel on Amnesty and Disarmament of Militants had fashioned out a Marshal Plan or innovative strategy to stop the insurgency, armed conflict, shutting down and vandalization of oil pipelines in the region; not just that unconditional pardon has been granted to the boys in the creeks.”
It stated that ‘no enduring peace or development can be achieved no matter the amnesty declaration without publication of those who daily make millions of dollars from illegal bunkering.’
While calling on the United Nations to constitute an Intervention Panel on the Niger Delta Crisis to save Nigeria from further drift, CNPP said the UN Intervention Panel is the only group that can return sanity to the region.
