The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Benue State has commenced training for 20 young unemployed persons in various entrepreneurship skills.
The flag-off and orientation of the youth under the Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (BNOAS) was undertaken in fashion design and web design to enable trainees to become self-reliant.
The state coordinator of NDE, Apochi Ubah Matthew, said the training would last for three months, during which participants are expected to acquire marketable skills to become self-employed and reduce poverty, hunger, youth restiveness as well as other social vices.
Matthew said the NDE under the present leadership of its Director General, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to combat unemployment in the country.
He therefore called on participants to demonstrate a high sense of commitment to the training as a stepping stone to greater things to come, stressing that the training scheme was designed to arm them with desired skills to survive the economic situation in the country.
On her part, the Head of Department (HOD), Vocational Skill Development, Ene Awosika, urged the trainees to be serious with the opportunity availed them by the federal government because there are no white-collar jobs anywhere.
