The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) said it has trained 424 unemployed youths from Bayelsa State in skills to tackle unemployment.

The Director General of NDE, Mallam Nuhu Fikpo, who disclosed this during the orientation ceremony for 248 newly recruited trainees of the directorate in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, said they have adopted skills acquisition as a veritable tool towards fighting the menace of unemployment. 

Represented by the NDE state Coordinator in Bayelsa State, Mr Aham Osuchukwu,  the NDE boss urged the beneficiaries to note that any skill acquired is for life and needs only updating to keep abreast of latest technological innovations. 

He said the training is for its new intakes who have been engaged by the directorate to be trained on four skills acquisition schemes.

He said: “The new trainees would be trained intensively on catering, aluminium framing, computer operation, make-over, fashion design, hair dressing amongst others.”

The Director of Vocational Skills Development in NDE, Mr Isa Abdu, said the training is for both school leavers, school dropouts, graduates of the tertiary institutions, retirees, and the vulnerable. 

She urged them to be serious with the training to learn skills that will be beneficial to them in life.
