The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Anambra State has recruited 50 unemployed graduates on temporary jobs and deployed them to various corporate organisations for initial three months.
The state coordinator, Special Public Works Department of NDE, Mrs Chika Ufele, disclosed this during an orientation ceremony for the Graduate Attachment Programme (GAP) in Awka, Anambra State.
According to Ufele, each beneficiary will receive a stipend of N15,000 per month for the three months of the internship.
“The Graduate Attachment Programme (GAP) 2020 is being replicated in all the 36 states of the federation and FCT, whereby a total of 1,850 jobs are being expected to be created for the unemployed graduates nationwide.
“The concept behind the formation of GAP is to address the alarming level of graduates’ unemployment by providing them with transient jobs.
“During this period, the interns are expected to gain requisite practical experience and ascertain their indispensability to the organisation that may lead to possible retention at the end of the internship,’’ she said.
The coordinator also stated that the department through GAP is promoting mass employment strategies through the attachment of qualified graduates to willing employers of labour on pupilage for 3-6 months.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Victoria Nwogbo, thanked NDE for availing them the opportunity to be productive in life and promised to be committed during the internship.
“I advise my co-beneficiaries to add value to the vision and mission of the employer for possible retention,” she said.
