National Directorate of Employment (NDE) yesterday disbursed N8.7 million business enhancement loans to 220 unemployed women and youths in Kogi State.
Director General of NDE, Dr Nasir Mohammed Argungu, at the flag off of the loan disbursements in Lokoja, said the initiative was part of efforts by the federal government aimed at uplifting those in small scale enterprises.
The DG, who was represented by the NDE Coordinator in the state, Mallam Zakari Abubakar, said the loan disbursements would go a long way in addressing the issues of unemployment, poverty and encourage wealth creation and self reliance amongst the people.
He said the beneficiaries, who were selected from across the three senatorial districts of the state, have been trained by NDE prior to the loan disbursements to enable them begin their own businesses.
The DG said the loan was repayable within a maximum of two years with nine percent interest and urged the beneficiaries to ensure its judicious utilization.
Representative of the Kogi State Government, Josephine Ali, lauded the federal government for the gesture, saying it would go a long way ensuring job and wealth creation for the people.
