Ahead of its 30th year anniversary celebration, the National Centre for Women’s Development has disclosed plans to build a new vocational training centre that will be used to train Nigerian women and youths in at least 24 vocational skill courses such as plumbing, vulcanizing and cosmetology, among others.
The NCWD also inaugurated its infrastructure and revitalization committee, whose mandate is to restore and uplift the facilities of the centre.
The Director General of NCWD, Dr Asabe Vilita at the ceremony in Abuja said upon her resumption in office, she observed the centre was in a state of total dilapidation, hence the need for re-branding and restructuring.
She said, “This was due to wear and tear over the past 30 years of its existence, with poor maintenance culture and poor budgetary allocation”.
“This new vocational centre will give us the ability to create a decent and conducive environment where the Nigerian woman who is in search of skills and empowerment can come and learn comfortably.”
The DG also stated that the revitalization committee’s main mandate was to upgrade and ensure the face-lift of the NCWD facilities as it befits the national monument, which is a rallying point for Nigerian women.
