Speaking with our reporter in a telephone interview, national chairman of the party, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, expressed bitterness over the high rate of poverty and unemployment in the country noting that every Nigerian is entitled to have not less than two billion naira in his or her account.
Dr. Tanko who stressed the need for the electorates to vote for a political party that would give them genuine dividends of democracy based on trust said that the NCP had a unique goal of uniting the nation, providing job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths and promoting agriculture.
“People have been deprived of their basic rights and livelihood for a very long time. I can assure you that NCP will capture power in 2015 and right the wrongs. The issue of agitation for power shift between the north and the south sprang up because there is no justice and fairness for all. In NCP, we deal with credibility. We don’t deal with north-south dichotomy,” he said.
He blamed the high rate of crime in the country on the inability of the government to ensure equity, justice and fair play saying when the rule of law is not strictly adhered to, it portends danger to democracy generally.
Dr. Tanko who said the NCP is concerned about transparency and respect for the rule of law, appealed to the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) not to compromise its responsibility of ensuring a free, fair and transparent election in 2015.
