The Comptroller General of Nigeria Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, said the service had paid N198,299,150 as death claims to 144 beneficiaries under Correctional Welfare Insurance Scheme (CWIS) in 12 months.
The CG disclosed this while presenting cheques to the next of kin of six officers that lost their lives in active service at the 15th annual workshop of the NCoS in Abuja on Wednesday.
Nababa also revealed that in an effort to provide more support, a total of N299,323 million had been paid as retirement and medical claims to 548 staff.
