NCC targets N632bn in 2022, allays fears of 5G network

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has projected a revenue of N632.39 billion for 2022 fiscal year. 

The regulatory agency also reassured that the Fifth Generation (5G) network was not hazardous to the health of Nigerians.

The commission’s Executive Vice Chairman, Professor Umar Danbatta spoke in Abuja on Monday during budget defense session before the National Assembly Joint Committee on Communications.

He said the N632bn projected revenue would comprise of expected proceeds from 5G spectrum auction. 

“Our revenue in 2022 will be higher than what is being generated in 2021 which as at the end of September was about N315bn.”

Danbatta presented a budget of N86.2bn for recurrent expenditures, N29.36bn for capital while N2.55bn earmarked for special projects.

When asked by the committee’s members on safety of the 5G network, Danbatta said: “Concerning the fear about the 5G, we share the same concern because it is justified and we have been sensitizing Nigerians about the safety of the new technology. 

“Up till date, there is no credible evidence about the health hazard of the 5G technology, therefore it is safe,” the NCC boss said.
