The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) is to set up additional special team to checkmate cybercrimes in the country, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Professor Umar Danbatta has said.
Professor Danbatta stated this while speaking to newsmen shortly after he received an award of excellence conferred on him by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Kabuga branch, Kano state.
Danbatta said the commission had on ground a special team called Nigerian Computer Emergency Response Team that was saddled with responsibilities of tackling cybercrimes.
He added that another special team for the telecommunications sector called Cyber Crimes Incidence Response Team was under way.
He said, ”The commission is putting in place measures to contain cybercrimes in the country. The Nigerian Computer Emergency Response Team is a network of computers put together to contain cybercrimes to protect our network space. This team is domicile in the office of the National Security Adviser.”
The NCC boss said by the time the cybercrimes incidence response team would be ready; Nigerians would start witnessing new measures against cybercrimes from the commission.
He added that Nigerians would begin to see these steps being taken by the NCC as further reinforcement of measures by government to checkmate cybercrimes in the country.
