The Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) has been charged to engage key players in the federation in the fight against piracy, in order to ensure positive impact on the creativity industry and enhance economy of the country.

Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, made the call when he received a delegation of the commission on a courtesy visit to the Government House, Umuahia.

He condemned the effect of piracy on the nation’s economy due to pirated copies that are never accounted for, which in turn rob artists of their creativity and royalties.

He noted that with their visit to the state, efforts would be put in place to open an office of the commission in Abia State.

In his speech earlier, the leader of the delegation and Director General of the commission, Mr John Asein, explained that they came to inform the state government of their operational challenges, disclosing that plans were on to establish a school in the state to grow talents and create wealth.

Th NCC DG solicited the support of the government and traditional leaders in the anti-piracy campaign, adding that Abia is strategic in the creative industry in Nigeria based on multi-talented and multi-developed cities.
