NBA president sets up disciplinary committee, 19 others

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, has announced membership of the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee along with other standing committees and ad hoc committees.

The newly inaugurated disciplinary committee, which has 15 members, includes Yunus Ustaz Usman (Chairman, Kaduna); Funke Aboyade (co-chairman, Lagos) and Ikenna Onwusika (Secretary, Lagos).

This committee, Akpata said, “is critical to our work of strengthening our disciplinary mechanism and improving public confidence in the legal profession.”

Beside the disciplinary committee, the NBA has also set up 19 other standing committees and ad hoc committees.

Akpata said Section 12 of the NBA Constitution establishes 11 standing committees and provides their terms of reference which are structured to actualise the core objectives of the association.

The committees have Senior Advocates of Nigeria heading them: Human Rights Committee with Mike Ozekhome, Judiciary Committee with Babatunde Ajibade, Welfare Committee with Yakubu Maikyau, Remuneration Committee with Anthony Nwaochei, Legal Education Committee with Prof. Dakkas J. Dakkas, and Law Reform Committee with Mohammed Dele Belgore.

The Public Interest Litigation Committee with Charles Mekwunye, Anti-Corruption Committee with Babajide Ogundipe, Future of Legal Practice Committee with A. U. Mustapha, Secretariat Restructuring Committee with Dr. Joe Abah, Digital NBA Committee with Basil Udotai, and Electoral Reform and Audit Committee with Ayo Akintunde.

Others are: Finance Committee with Olaseni Adio, Dispute Resolution Committee with Bolaji Ayorinde, Editorial Board with Prof U. U. Chukwumaeze, Sports and Recreation Committee with Yahaya Maikori, Technical Committee On 2021 Conference Planning with Victor Frank, and Constitution Review Committee with Yussuf Asamah Kadiri.
