NBA condemns kidney trade in Abuja, offers victims free services

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Garki Branch, FCT has condemned the illegal harvest and trade of kidneys in the territory and its environs.

In a statement by the chairman of the branch, Obioma Ezenwobodo on Wednesday, the association declared pro bono legal representation for any victim of the trade in need of such.

He said the branch has directed its Health and Medical Committee to keep tabs on the pending legal actions instituted by affected parties in the matter and to ensure that justice was served.

The branch also enjoined relevant government agencies and professional bodies to work assiduously to nip the ugly trend in the bud by sanitizing and adopting a strict regulatory regime for organ transplants.

Daily Trust had in an investigative report of December 10 exposed the illegal harvest of organs of persons in the FCT and Nasarawa State, with promises of economic empowerment.

The NBA said the shady, cruel, inhuman and offensive to Section 54 of the National Health Act 2024 that proscribes sell or trade in human organs.
