Navy takes delivery of 4 war ships

A statement yesterday issued by Navy spokesman Commodore Kabir Aliyu said the navy had recently received the naval ships: NNS Centenary, NNS Okpabana, NNS Prosperity and NNS Sagbama.
It also announced that the commissioning ceremony of the 4 ships would be performed by President Goodluck Jonathan on February 19, 2015.
The statement noted that acquisition of the ships represented a landmark achievement for the Nigerian Navy and the federal government.
It said the occasion was unique because this was the first time in the history of the Nigerian Navy that 4 capital warships would be commissioned at once.
The statement stated that the ships would enhance the Nigerian Navy’s efforts at improving security in the nation’s maritime environment and demonstration of the federal government’s efforts to reposition the Navy to meet contemporary security challenges.
