The Nigerian Navy yesterday said its patrol team on August 29 raided and destroyed an illegal refinery at Boloba Creek in Bonny LGA of Rivers State.
A statement from Navy spokesman, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, said the patrol team deployed by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bonny destroyed the illegal refinery which had several storage tanks loaded with stolen crude oil.
He said on August 31, the patrol team arrested a barge suspected to be involved in crude oil theft at Creek 6 in Bonny LGA.
He said the barge was laden with stolen crude oil, but that no arrest was made in both cases as the suspects fled on sighting the patrol team.
Ezekobe further said the Marine Tanker Team Tango was arrested for conveying dangerous cargoes.
He said the ship which was tracked down with Maritime Domain Awareness capability of the Nigerian Navy was under interrogation and would be promptly handed over to the appropriate agency for further action.
