Navy arrest 5 stowaway on-board oil vessel off Lagos waters

The authority in charge of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, on Wednesday, said it has arrested five stowaways aged between 23 and 27 who illegally boarded a crude oil tanker, MT CHEMSTRANS BALTIC l, with the intention of travelling to Europe.

The Navy said the suspects were caught by the crew and handed over to the naval officers attached to NNS BEECROFT.  

The Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Bashir Mohammed, in a statement confirming the arrest, said preliminary investigation revealed that MT CHEMSTRANS BALTIC was Europe bound.

He said the suspects had been handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further investigation and prosecution.  

Mohammed advised Nigerians to always follow the due process of migration to avoid being sanctioned.
