The minister spoke in Lagos on Tuesday after inspecting remodelling works at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.   The national car-rier is supposed to have taken off by now following earlier announcements.
“We ought to have commenced the national carrier. We encountered a bit of a challenge but we are trying to sort it out. But we can assure you we will establish a national carrier Nigerians will be proud of. The national carrier will represent Nigeria and we can all buy into it. It will be professionally and profitably managed” she said.  Speaking on the remodelling effort she said, “Ours is to maximise the capacity that haven’t been utilised over the years and this is also to give customers best experiences.”
According to her, the Owerri airport is ready, so is Sokoto, Akure, Yola and others. We are just doing finishing touches. From January we will start commissioning, she noted.
“We want to start usage of all the facilities by the first quarter of 2014. The passengers will be more secured and comfortable. We have increased the capacity of the terminal thus we have ample space.”
