The National Assembly Service Commission has directed the Clerk to the National Assembly, Amos Ojo, to proceed on a three-month pre-retirement leave.

Ojo is due to commence his pre-retirement leave on November 14 in preparation for his exit from the National Assembly on February 14, 2023.

However, there were alleged moves by interested parties to allow him to spend the pre-retirement leave in the office.

The Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives had earlier written to the Head of Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, seeking her opinion on whether or not it was proper for Ojo to spend his pre-retirement leave in the office.

The Head of Service, in her response through a letter signed by a director, Adebayo O. Odejinmi, had said there was nothing wrong in Ojo spending his pre-retirement leave in the office.

The speaker of the House, through his Chief of Staff, Olanrewaju Smart, had conveyed the Head of Service’s response to the National Assembly Service Commission for guidance and clarification on pre-retirement leave of a retiring civil servant.

But the commission, in a letter dated November 14, had directed Ojo to proceed on his pre-retirement leave with effect from November 14, 2022 and asked him to hand over to the most senior officer in the National Assembly management.

The letter was signed by the commission’s Executive Chairman, Engr Ahmed Kadi Amshi.

The letter partly read: “The National Assembly Service Commission at its meeting held on 14th November, 2022 considered your letter and approved the commencement of your pre-retirement leave w.e.f 14th November, 2022 and your eventual retirement on 14th February, 2023.

“As you proceed on your pre-retirement leave, you are to be guided by the provision of the public service rules.

“As you finally exit from the service on the 14th of February 2023, the Commission hereby appreciates your valuable contributions to the National Assembly Service and prays that God will continue to grant you good health and success in your future endeavours.”
