National Assembly caucus defends Buhari”s appointment of kitchen cabinet

North-East caucus of the National Assembly on Wednesday threw their weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari on the appointment of his Kitchen cabinet.

Addressing newsmen,  the Chairman of the caucus, Senator Danjuma Goje said the uproars over the appointments were unnecessary.

" It is high time we got it right, it is not about where a man comes from but about what he can deliver to the people.  President Barack Obama started with over 20 of his Harvard classmates and David Cameron of British started with most of schoolmates too, " Goje who addressed newsmen alongside other members of the caucus comprising Senators and House of Representatives members said.

The caucus said globally Presidents appoint only people they are familiar with into their kitchen cabinet in view of the sensitivity of the positions.

" Under former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)  and other key appointments were from Southern region. Under late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, the SGF and others are from the North.

" Even me while I was the Governor of Gombe state,  my Chief of Staff and SSG were from my local government. So, I don’t see reason for this huge cry about President Buhari’s kitchen cabinet, " he said.

While urging Nigerians to be patience with President Buhari, he said the President will take care of all parts of the country in subsequent appointments.

" The change we worked for is with us and we are assuring you that the appointments will go round based on merit. If Nigeria must move forward, we need to make choice, either we decide on ethnic free future and move on to greater heights or we continue to hold on to ethnic sentiments, zoning and remain backward, " the lawmakers said.

According to them,  Nigerians must shun all decisive agents and embrace change in the interest of democracy and National development.

In her contribution,  Senator Binta Garba Masi (Adamawa North)  said the appointments given to the people of the North East would assist in addressing the challenges bedevilling the region.
