NASS: Group dissociates self from impeachment

In a statement purportedly signed by its charman, Honarable Anas Garba and secretary, Honorable Ishaku Shara, the group made clear that it has never made any attempt or collaborated in any impeachment plan in respect of the House leadership.

The statement read in part: “The group wishes to place it on record that its leadership and members did not at any time agree to collectively pursue the impeachment or change of leadership in the house as speculated in some media reports. The group considers the stories making the rounds as not only false and misleading but also a calculated attempt to blackmail the group which exists to achieve laudable national objectives devoid of primordial sentiments.”

Reacting on issues affecting the presidency, the group however condemned insinuations linking it to the call for the invocation of section 144 of the Constitution, aimed at declaring president Umar yar’adua incapacitated on grounds of ill health. “There is no attempt or intention by our group calling for the impeachment of President Yar’adua or the invocation of section 144 of the Constitution.”
