An Islamic organisation, Nasru-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT), has embarked on sensitisation campaign aimed at ending violence against women and girls in three local government areas with the highest number of such cases in Sokoto State.
In a press conference held in the state, the Secretary General of the group, Alhaji Daud Gbenga Sumonu quoted the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Kulu Sifawa as saying that there were 411 reported cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state in recent times.

The local government areas include Binji, Sokoto North and Tangaza.
The zonal chairman of the group, Alhaji Muftahuddeen, lamented that most of the violent acts were perpetrated by sons of well-to-do individuals.
“Perpetrators are most connected. They use threat, some give token to the victims and their parents to keep silent,” he said.
