NASENI’s smart meter hits market

A smart prepaid meter manufactured locally in Nigeria by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has hit the market, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman Prof Mohammed Sanni Haruna has said.

Haruna disclosed this when the agency signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with eight companies and government institutions on research and development in Abuja on Tuesday.

One of the companies, Domtech Consult limited, will market the smart meter across the country, the Executive Vice Chairman told journalists after the Mou signing ceremony.

“Our smart meter will be sold throughout Nigeria by Domtech Consult Limited. The company won the competitive bid we carried out. With this, our commercialisation efforts have yielded fruit.’’, the minister said.

He said the NASENI signed agreement reached with the companies and institutions would create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs and improve the country’s wealth creation.

He said the smart meter would also contribute to the federal government’s metering programme and get thousands of prepaid meters into homes of Nigerians.

At least seven other institutions and firms signed the pact with NASENI including the National Power Training Institute (NAPTIN), Auchi Polytechnic, National Mushroom Growers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria, Federal University of Technology, Akure and Minna, Dalsman Tech Limited and Garthdee Enterprises Trust.
