The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has got recognition from the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE) for projecting engineering practices in Nigeria and for raising the bar of Research and Development (R&Ds) outputs leading to technology innovation.
NAE, which is the highest engineering body in Nigeria, described NASENI as an ‘Outstanding engineering agency with high level contributions to the academy’
Located in the Presidency, NASENI is currently at the forefront of campaigns for the revitalisation of the home-grown industrialisation agenda of the country while carrying out research and development works, manufacturing, reverse engineering and use of local contents for the production of capital goods, machines and equipment needed for the actual industrial development of the country.
Speaking while handing over an award of recognition to the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of NASENI, Engr. Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna, the President of the Academy, Engr. Alex Ogedegbe described NASENI as a worthy partner and ace builder for the promotion and growth of the engineering practice in Nigeria.
The agency’s financial contribution to the academy was also commended.
Enumerating some of its achievements, Ogedegbe pointed out that NASENI had carried out research and design successfully in the areas of manufacturing of the first made-in-Nigeria helicopter, the first Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) for agricultural purposes and security surveillance.
“NASENI had also successfully designed and manufactured the first electronic Voting Solution, which has the capacity to solve voting and collation challenges in the nation’s political system and other innovations.
“Also, during the COVID-19 pandemic, NASENI was the first institution of government to carry out research, design and successfully manufacture a range of COVID-19 disinfectant sprayers used in preventing the spread of the disease in public places among several interventions in the Nigerian economy,” he added.
In his remark, while receiving the award on behalf of the agency, Prof. Haruna said the recognition by the academy was a booster to do more.
Other recipients of NAE recognition are Globacom Telecommunications, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Airtel, Energy Commission of Nigeria and MTN Nigeria.
The Group Managing Director/CEO of Niger Delta Exploration and Production Plc, Mr. Adegbite Falade was the guest speaker at the NAE event/award dinner. His paper titled ‘Ownership changes in Nigeria’s oil and gas assets: Trends, implications and outlook’ focused on the challenges of the sector with the dwindling revenue from oil occasioned by so many emerging alternatives to crude.
