Nasarawa Utd determined to regain NPFL status – Othman

The Nasarawa United chairman, Othman Ahmed has declared the club’s determination to regain its status as a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club side.

Speaking during a press conference in Lafia yesterday assured the club’s supporters that the club had set a target of immediate return to the NPFL at the end of the 2023/2024 NNL season and the target will be met.

He further lauded the state governor, Abdullahi Sule for his support and also thanked the club’s supporters for their massive support in spite of its current predicament.

It will be recalled that Nasarawa United was relegated to the second tier of the country`s football league last season.

The club however commenced its 2023/2024 NNL season campaign with a 1-0 win over Zamfara United at the Lafia Township Stadium on Saturday.

“We thank Sule for the support so far and I can assure you he can do more with time. We also thank the Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe who also has been highly supportive of the club.

“I want to assure them that we will not disappoint them in the NNL. We started well on Saturday.

“We broke a jinx because in the last six previous opening matches, Nasarawa United hardly won but this season we won our opening match.

“Our target in this league this season is to get back to the Premier league. We are battle ready to achieve that target and we will not disappoint,” he said.

Also speaking, Usman Adams, Head Coach of Nasarawa United assured the state government and supporters that the team will do all it takes to return the club to the apex league.

“Even our performance against Zamfara United on Saturday wasn’t our best. Something went wrong. Jittery and anxiety came in. We will adjust quickly to achieve our goal at the end of the season.

“With the huge support we are enjoying from the state government, the new pitch, equipment and so on, I want to assure you that the boys are highly motivated. I also want you to believe that we are in the premier league already,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Kwara United, Kumbi Titiloye, has urged the team to step up their game in the NPFL. He warned that if the results don’t improve, there will be consequences for the entire team.

Kwara United has had two wins, three draws, and three defeats in eight matches this season so far. They recently had a 1-1 draw against 10-man Shooting Stars.

Currently, they are in 14th position on the NPFL table with nine points. Next, they will face Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
