Nasarawa Utd cage Wolves 2-1 to maintain unbeaten run

  • …As Heartland, Kwara United record home victories

Red-hot Nasarawa United yesterday defeated Warri Wolves 2-1 at the Warri Township stadium in one of the week six matches to maintain their unbeaten run in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, season.

With their second away victory of the season, Nasarawa United have shot to the top of the table with 14 points from six matches and are closely followed by Rivers United on 12 points but victory over Kano Pillars on Wednesday in Kaduna will see the ‘Pride of Rivers’ topple Nasarawa United.

Although Uche Ihuarulam had put Warri Wolves ahead in the 21st minute, Silas Nwankwo capitalised on poor defending by the home lads to equalise for the visitors in the 63rd minute.

The keenly contested match was heading for a 1-1 draw before experienced striker Chinedu Ohanachom struck in the 78th minute to hand Nasarawa United the crucial away victory.

In other week six matches decided yesterday, Gbenga Ogunbote led Sunshine stars also recorded a 2-1 victory in Uyo against Dakkada FC.

Sadeeq Yusuf scored a brace in the 12th and 67th minute before Jesam Edet got the consolation goal for Dakkada in the 71st minute.

And still basking in the euphoria of their 1-0 win over Enyimba FC in the rescheduled week 2 match on Wednesday, Kwara United recorded another 1-0 win over FC IfeanyiUbah in Ilorin.

Substitute Olawale Farayola’s strike in the 87th was enough to hand the ‘Afonja Warriors’ the maximum points against the ‘Nnewi Millionaires’.

In Okigwe, Heartland left it late to beat Akwa United 2-1 after Mfon Udoh gave the visitors the lead in the 34th minute before Samuel Nnosiri equalised for the home side from the spot, seven minutes into the second half.

Pascal Eze then beat an offside trap to jab home Emmanuel Nnamani’s cross from the deep in the 79th minute to send Akwa United home empty handed.

In Enugu, Rangers were forced to 0-0 draw by visiting Lobi Stars and the fixture between Abia Warriors and MFM of Lagos ended in a barren draw in Aba.

Week six matches continue today and it will be a double header in Bauchi where Wikki Tourists host Jigawa Golden Stars while Adamawa United entertain Enyimba FC.
