A member of Nasarawa United Football Club (NUFC), Martins Chineme, on Sunday evening slumped and died on football pitch at the Lafia Township Staduim in Nasarawa state.
The state Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Othman Bala Adams (a.k.a. Boss), in an exclusive chat with Daily Trust said: “the Defender, who wore Jersey number 20 for NUFC in the match between NUFC and Katsina United Football Club held at the stadium today, slumped while the match was ongoing.”
“He was given first aid, just as paramedics rushed him to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH),” he added.
When contacted, the Chief Medical Director of DASH, Dr. Ikrima Hassan, confirmed that the player was “clinically dead.”
Meanwhile, the Sports Commissioner said the Nasarawa State Government is in shock over the death of the promising player.
He said that henceforth, the pitch would be watered in between the first half of every match.
