Executive Secretary of the board, Malam Abdulkarim Abdullahi, made this known at a meeting of the board and local government councils’ chairmen and education secretaries in the state in Lafia.
Abdullahi said the board has set up a committee to collaborate with council chairmen and education secretaries to identify areas where the teachers are needed.
He said the committee was also charged with the responsibility of working out modalities of ensuring that only competent hands are employed. He said the committee would complete the assignment shortly, adding that the recruitment of the teachers would commence before the end of August.
Abdullahi added that the state government, through the board, constructed model schools and provided basic infrastructure in them to ensure qualitative primary education for all citizens.
He, however, said that without adequate personnel, the objective of providing quality basic education would not be met.
“This informed the decision to engage more capable hands to replace those who have retired or changed jobs,” he said.
In his remarks, Chairman of Lafia Local Government Council, Alhaji Suleiman Wambai, lauded the government’s decision to employ more teachers, adding that it would create jobs for qualified youths.
Wamba assured said that the committee would follow due process in carrying out its duty to ensure that qualified teachers were engaged.
He said employment of over 2,000 teachers would reduce youth restiveness and improve the security situation in the state. (NAN)
